Mike Meyers books have been a big help studying for comptia certs, but this book beats the rest hands down. The color photos are a big plus for quick reviews. Having the big pics on display makes for a much easier and faster study session. I think this book, combined with the practice test that is sold on their website that adds more questions, makes for a very similar testing experience. One thing you should do though, when prepping for this test, is to practice command lines. This is something that the practice tests out there do not cover well enough and is covered a bit on the actual test. Knowing how to actually solve a problem is required on the test, and this book prepped me well to handle it.
“Answers to the end of chapter sections are not included in the book and are only available to adopting instructors.†Effectively, not having the Answer-Key(s) renders the End of Chapter Study features, nearly useless. Too Bad. This book would have been, (an yet could be) a significant learning advantage... The “End of Chapter†Study Strategy would be excellent, ...If, and only if, you can Check-Your-Work.Here's the Publisher's response: "As the author, there is not much that we can do, it is a policy of McGraw Hill Educational division. The Managing and Troubleshooting Guide is based on the retail All In One Guide, however it is designed more for classroom use. Due to this, McGraw Hill only provide the answers to those questions through the Instructor's Guide. I generally suggest the All In One for individuals due to this reason." Had to purchase for a summer college class. It is a ton to cover in 9 weeks (32 chapters and over 800+ pages) and I am not sure I will be ready to actually take the CompTIA A+ before the semester is over but it will be a great reference book for when I actually do. It is great as far as teaching you what will be covered on the exams and the terminology used. It was recommended by my professor who has been teaching this class for many years and he felt this is the best text out there for succeeding in passing the 220-801 and the 220-802 exams to be A+ certified. The lab manual has hands on projects that help you to understand how things actually work instead of just reading about it.
Very informative book. Not only does it teach computer hardware, but networking as well. It also comes with a PDF version of the book so you can continue to study after your class has ended.
I use the software that came with the book to test myself on what I've read. While doing so, I noticed that with some of the chapter test questions, the process being referenced doesn't show up until several chapters further into the book. For example, one of the Chapter 4 questions talks about the Windows 2000/XP boot process. This process isn't even discussed in the book until Chapter 14. This textbook has a lot of information, especially for a class given 9 days to absorb it..the software included does not need to confuse us..or have us frantically scanning the chapter we read wondering why we can't find the "referenced" answer. I can't say for sure how effective this textbook is at helping someone study for the Comptia A+ exams because I haven't taken mine yet.
I had worked in the IT industry for several years; however, I recently returned to college to get my degree. This book was used as a classroom text in one of the courses (across 2 terms) required for my degree.The book is very well written. The author includes the necessary detail to insure a good understanding of the material. This book is an excellent read for anyone considering getting their CompTIA A+ certification. After completing this course, I took (and passed) both parts of the A+ exam.I would have given 5 stars; however, I have a major issue with the fact that (like so many other publishers of Kindle material) the publisher did not include "Page Numbers" on the pages. Instead you get "Location" number which has no practical purpose. This makes it impossible to assist people that are using the physical books.I encourage all Kindle owners to help send a message to all the publishers ... we demand pages numbers consistent with the printed material.
great job on packing it strong.. books showed up in grade A shape...one had a small tear and a black line on it..i give you an A..thank you again..will be back...!!
Book is HUGE, expect it to weigh down your backpack for class. Sidenote, there is a digital version in the back of your book that you can use on computers and tablets.
