Virgilio Martinez (Author) Virgilio Martinez was the national skateboarding champion of Peru in the 1990s but, after an accident, decided to study law in Lima. During a holiday job, he discovered his passion for cooking, dropped out of university, and traveled to Canada and then London to become a Cordon Bleu graduate. After working for 10 years in Canada, Europe and Asia he became head chef of Gastón Acurio's restaurant in Bogota. Returning home, he opened his own restaurant, Central, in the Peruvian capital in 2010, now the number one restaurant in Peru (according to Summum, Peru's leading restaurant guide), and recently voted the number one best restaurant by Latin America's 50 Best Restaurants list and 15th position in The World's 50 Best Restaurant ranking. The 36-year-old chef also has two restaurants in London - LIMA and LIMA Floral - celebrating informal modern Peruvian cooking. LIMA is the UK's first and only Peruvian restaurant to be given a Michelin star in. Great book. The previous review talks bad about this book but I don't agree with that. If you are looking for a traditional book with Peruvian food this is not what you are looking for. This book is written by the one of the most prestigious chefs that Peru has (his restaurant Central is ranked as best in South America and 5th in the world). The type of cuisine he presents is very modern, innovative and resembles the great food that can be made in Peru with the broad variety of ingredients that are there. Some ingredients you won't be able to find them very easily but it's being creative and using the concept to apply it to your own reality and the ingredients you have available. If you love Peruvian food and want to try some new recipes that are completely out of the traditional but still with the same soul that Peruvian food has this book is for you. Give it a try
I’m Peruvian American and blessed to have grown up eating several traditional dishes so it’s refreshing to see a cookbook with new recipes that are more on the modern side but still feel like home. Virgilio MartÃnez just doesn’t disappoint.

It's ok. Not really about traditional Peruvian Cooking, but mostly an interesting twist on Peruvian Food. Still a good book, but be aware that this is not a Traditional Peruvian Food book.
Another book for my Peruvian born daughter in law. She liked it. Knew the chef-author.
