Definitely a worthwhile purchase, lots of great period photography, not the all-to-often seen incorrectly restored street rods usually featured in this type of book. Much of the copy appears to have been cribbed from contemporary sales literature, not necessarily a bad thing but real in depth behind-the-scenes information is always appreciated. Some coverage of military trucks (though a few pictured were actually GMC's), El Camino's (more of a car anyway), even the LUV and S-10. Biggest disappointment was the nearly complete lack of commercial truck coverage, no mention of Chevy's 10 year foray into class 8 semi trucks, nothing on the Titan, Bison, Bruin, Tilt's, C40-65's, Kodiak, no pictures of medium duty after the Advance-Design models. Too bad, they were as much a part of Chevy's truck history as anything else. That minor criticism aside, it's a well done book and absolutely a 'must-have' for any Chevy truck fan. It's even a high quality printing.
Without doubt, this is the best book on the Chevrolet Pickup. What pleases me the most, is chapter 10, page 135, entitled "Suburban Living" which features the original Suburban trucks that I have long been curious about. It's about time somebody did a feature on that type of vehicle, and maybe a separate book could be done on the Chevy Suburban.
Gorgeous pictures! The only issue is due to the size and amount of ink used, the person I gave it to is highly allergic to certain inks and was unable to open the book without airing it out for several weeks. (He actually had a severe allergic reaction just upon opening the gift on Christmas) I basically put it in the garage with a fan on it to help get rid of the fresh ink odor. He is in love with the book even if he has to pop a few Benadryl before reading it. haha
Not as much meat and potatoes as I hoped. The book was skewed towards more modern pickup trucks. I was hoping for better coverage of medium and heavy duty trucks as they are also an important part of the Chevrolet truck heritage. I was also hoping for more comprehensive coverage of all Chevy truck specifications and appearance over the years, and more coverage of Chevrolet truck engines.
As a 4th Generation, EWING CHEVROLET, Chevrolet dealer. Our family dealership sold and delivered Chevrolet Trucks for over 90 years since 1917. I received this book as a Pre-Christmas present from my wife of 50+ years. The outstanding layout and photos brought back many happy memories of the 50+ years I sold Chevrolet Trucks. I am proud to have this book in my personal library. If you love Chevy Trucks, you will want this book for your library as well.
While this is a still a very good book , I was disappointed in the coverage of the 88-99 C/K trucks , other than the 454ss truck and a few pictures of trucks from the late 90s C/K , no real in depth discussion on probably the best overall series of trucks Chevrolet has produced, there are only about 7 pages dedicated to mostly the 88-99 . Lots of other great pictures though .
Absolutely fantastic book a lot of interesting and great information. I would highly recommend this book for a Chevy truck enthusiasts very well detailed information talks about all the years and breaks down the trucks not only just pickup trucks but also SUVs.
I got this book from my husband for Christmas and I loved it! I decided to get my dad one for his birthday and he loves it! It's a great book for the Chevy lover!
