About the Author

Ian V. Hogg was a notable British author of several books on firearms, artillery, and ammunition, as well as various biographies of famous generals. During his career he wrote, co-wrote, or co-edited about 150 books. It cover rockets extremely well,The diagrams and photos for rocket weapons are excellent , Appendix 1 and 2 of the allied Special List and German Code Names with list of weapons is excellent. All the other other weapons are cover like a readers digest for nuclear development , gas weapons, aircraft and others. But enough fundamental information is given to describe these secret weapons. What I like is the author does a great job of explaining how each weapon works in simple terms.The book does not cover much about the people that developed these weapons or the condition of the workers who built these weapons or the decision involved with making these weapons. Which make it a subjective technical book. The book does names the leading people for these weapons.A lot of these types of books are boring to read. This book It's extremely easy to read. It is light reading without a lot of of technobabble or German technical words..The book is broad coverage of weapons and a good reference to use to Google these topics. If you are looking for any depth on any of these topics. I would look elsewhere.I enjoyed reading this book cover to cover.

This is an excellent book. It covers the V - weapons (V-1 and V-2), the attempted "high pressure pump" long-range gun, and the A-9 / A-10; air-launched anti-ship weapons; artillery developments such as the taper-bore anti-tank guns and the super siege guns; and assorted torpedoes and submarines. One thing I have always liked about Ian Hogg's writing is that he gives only information that the evidence supports. There are no alleged performances or rumored wonder weapons that could have won the war for the Nazis.The Introduction also contains a brief description of the chaotic and uncoordinated research and development system that plagued German weapons procurement during the entire war.There are books that contain more detailed information on separate German weapons developments such as the feeble and incoherent German atomic bomb program or the V-weapons program but this book does a very good job of providing the essential information on all of them.

A highly technical book, this volume gives a good look at the secret weapons which were successfully or unsuccessfully developed by Germany. I found the chapers on the V-1, V-2, the sea war, and nuclear/chemical warfare to be of particular interest.
